Ladies and Gentlemen, Start your engines. Quickie 500 racing comes to MCRC. We have talked about it for a number of years and now it is here. I would like to see at least 50% of the membership involved. Whether you fly in the race or not, you are needed. We need lap counters, callers and pylon judges. So, if you are not ready to fly yet, you can still help. This is an activity for you, our club members. We are not soliciting other clubs to participate, but if other local clubs want to join in on the fun, I think we should welcome them. It's up to you. Attached to this notice are the rules for racing at MCRC. Once we get underway, there may be a need for some changes. I welcome all comments and suggestions to make this work. I'm setting our first race date to be. November 26th. First Lap starts at 10 AM sharp. If this is not good for those wishing to participate, let me know. We could race maybe on Sunday after the meeting. (2 PM ??) Your in put is requested/needed & appreciated. See you at the field. Jim

MANATEE COUNTY RADIO CONTROLLERS QUICKIE 500 THE FUN WAY
MCRC Quickie 500 races are designed for Club member fun activities, not for AMA rule book competition. Therefore, some changes are made to our set-up. Safety of participants and spectators is top priority. Normal field activities will not be interrupted. The Airplanes will be standard quickie-type aircraft: Viper, Predator, Scat Cat, Dominator, etc., with all four functions: elevator, rudder, ailerons and throttle. Total aircraft weight will not be less than 3.50 pounds. No back up aircraft allowed on race day. The engines will be standard front intake, side exhaust 40 size with standard mufflers advertised nationally at a cost of $100.00 or less. The only exception is the OS 40 FX. No modifications to the engine or muffler will be allowed other than the removal of the muffler internal baffle. AMA spinner nut must be used. The Activities Chairman will supply fuel, Omega, Cool Power or Wild Cat 10% and props, Master Airscrew 9 X 7 and helmets. All pilots must display flying proficiency before being allowed to race, and all aircraft must be previously test flown. The activities chairman may call for a safety check of the aircraft at his discretion. We will use the two pylon course with 550 feet of separation. Each pilot must have a caller, who will also act as his pit crew. Each is required to wear a helmet. Each pilot will be allowed to fly the full number of rounds, there is no eliminations. There will be a 60 second engine start and launch time. The race will begin with a flying start with a 15 second countdown and the duration shall be 10 laps. Entry fees will be $5.00 one time only to be on the race pilots list, with a $3.00 entry fee per race day. Scoring shall be as follows: First place, Second place, Third place, etc will be awarded points of 4, 3, 2 & 1. One point will be deducted for a single pylon cut. A score of 0 for double cuts, no starts and did not finish. The matrix will be determined by random drawings prior to each heat.
